ECHOES
As we mark 80 years since VE Day, it is vital that we not only commemorate those who could not return but also ensure that the lessons of the past remain relevant today.
Echoes is designed to provide a space for quiet reflection on how we honour those sacrifices.
Before World War II, acoustic sound mirrors were placed along England’s southeast coast, facing Europe.
Intended as an early warning system against aerial threats, these structures played a crucial role in the development of radar - an innovation that proved instrumental in the Allied victory.
This 3-metre artwork draws inspiration from these sound mirrors, symbolising the importance of listening - not just to the past, but to the voices that still need to be heard today.

to history, to each other, and to the lessons that shape our present in an increasingly uncertain world.

Foreword
As we mark the 80th anniversaries of VE Day and VJ Day, we must ensure that the sacrifices of the past continue to resonate clearly in our national consciousness. We commemorate those who fought and fell in the struggle against tyranny, securing the freedoms we enjoy today.
For over a century, RBLI has been unwavering in its mission to provide life-changing support to veterans and those with disabilities. More than an organisation, it is a community dedicated to ensuring that those who have served, and those in need, receive the assistance they require, whenever they require it.
We understand all too well the brutal realities of war and the indispensable role of our Armed Forces. The courage and selflessness of those who have worn the uniform, both past and present, remain as vital today as ever. Conflict is not consigned to history; it persists in our world. This is why ongoing support for our veterans is not just important but essential. Thanks to your generosity, we can continue to offer vital care to those most in need.
VE Day 80 is a moment to reflect on the immense contribution of all who served, those who fought on land, at sea, and in the air, and those on the home front who worked tirelessly, these countless individuals gave their all in the face of great adversity. Their legacy is one of duty, resilience, and sacrifice – and through the work of RBLI and Echoes it is one we must continue to honour and uphold.
At RBLI, we have always looked
to the future while recognising
the profound impact of the past
on so many lives. Echoes is a

commemoration and the
importance of learning from
history as we continue moving
forward
